Four charged with rioting, threats in Tamaqua
Melissa Ann Bailey, 40, of Tamaqua, has been charged with riot, corruption of minors, terroristic threats, failure to disperse upon official order, disorderly conduct and harassment.
On Feb. 16 at 3:50 p.m. Tamaqua police were dispatched to Mauch Chunk Street near the five points intersection for a large fight in progress.
On scene officers observed Bailey and several juveniles outside a home on Mauch Chunk Street, yelling and screaming profanities at the residents inside. Police separated the parties and told them to go home. The residents inside came out onto the sidewalk. Meanwhile, Bailey and the juveniles were about 30 yards away still yelling profanities.
Then Bailey and the juveniles approached the residents and tried to provoke a large fight by taunting and engaging the residents. Bailey and the juveniles were directed by police to disperse from the scene. She did not comply, police said.
Then Bailey went to the residents from the apartment and started yelling and screaming at them and tried to spit on the residents. At this point police took Bailey into custody.
Police also noted that two juvenile males, ages 13 and 14, and a female juvenile, age 17, were also charged for their part in the incident.
Tamaqua police were assisted by police from Coaldale and Rush Township.
